Well, that’s the least of the problems with the database: anyway, our present systems are regularly breached by PI’s looking for dirrt on people, or, especially worrying at the moment, locations of wives who have left husbands who are abusive. It’s essentially the wrong solution for the problem of neglected children; the governement perceives it in terms of availability to information, rather than overstrecthed social services departments.

      1. Well, apparently there are already over a quarter of a million smart cards for access to the (as yet incomplete) NHS spine… how many of them do you think are available for a price? Ask a PI or IT security professional… Basically, access to our most valuable, private data is being handed to the most underfunded, overworked sections of the public sector. What do you think will happen?

      2. Thing is, the US has safeguards in the nature of federal vs state government & constitutional guarantees that mitigate against something like this being set up there.
